I've done more good than bad in my life. Why can't my good be atonement for my sins?

Your good deeds might be enough, but it depends on how sincere you were when doing them

Good works can atone for minor sins but not major ones

Because all have sinned and fall short of God's glory

The church decides whose good deeds are sufficient for salvation
